Troubleshooting

My computer won't shut down!: Control+Alt+Command+Escape (Force Shutdown)

My MacBook has crashed!!!: If you see a gray or black box on your desktop, restart your computer. It might have been just a minor error. If you restart and see the box again, take your computer down to your school or local IT Professional. 2) If you start up your Mac and see a folder with a question mark (in older versions, you will see a small folder with a Finder logo and a question mark blinking...) you have a system file missing or your hardware is acting up. Try to restart in Safe Mode. I got this from the Apple website (To start up into Safe Mode or to Safe Boot), do this:
  1. Be sure your Mac is shut down.
  2. Press the power button.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
